Apenas un minuto pasadas las nueve de la mañana de la hora local, el Boing 737 de la empresa de paquetería DHL aterrizó en el aeropuerto de la Ciudad de México con una primera entrega de las vacunas contra el COVID-19 elaboradas por las empresas Pfizer y BioNTec.
La Comisión Federal para la protección de riesgos sanitarios, autoridad regulatoria mexicana, aprobó el uso de emergencia de la vacuna creada por la empresa norteamericana Pfizer junto a su par alemana, BioNTec, el 11 de diciembre, apenas días detrás de la autorización brindada por las autoridades de Canadá, el Reino Unido y Bahréin.
Con su llegada al país este 23 de diciembre, México se convirtió en uno de los primeros diez países del mundo en recibir y comenzar la vacunación de su población contra la pandemia que asoló el año 2020, apenas un día antes de la celebración de la Noche Buena en el mundo occidental.Según los datos oficiales, el acuerdo con Pfizer-BioNTec contempla la llegada a México de 34 millones de dosis en distintos vuelos específicos que serán realizados por la empresa alemana DHL, la cual aportó la logística para su traslado en una temperatura menor a 7 grados bajo cero, debido a que esta vacuna a diferencia de las convencionales, usa una nueva tecnología que copia la secuencia genética del virus y lo traslada a la sangre de las personas mediante un ARN mensajero.
Además de este convenio, México negoció otras dos compras privadas directamente con los laboratorios Astra-Zeneca y la Universidad de Oxford, cuyo mecanismo fue financiado por el magnate mexicano Carlos Slim y que incluye una parte de su producción en la Argentina y su traslado a México; También con CanSyno Biologics, la empresa estatal china que desde comienzos de noviembre realiza sus pruebas de fase tres en el país azteca. México a su vez forma parte del mecanismo Covax, de las Naciones Unidas, impulsado por el Primer mandatario mexicano.Según ha anunciado el Presidente de la República, Andrés Manuel López Obrador y como fue reiterado por todos los Secretarios encargados de la gestión de su llegada al país, la vacuna en México será “universal y gratuita” para todos sus habitantes.
La llegada del primer lote
Una nutrida comitiva gubernamental se hizo presente desde las primeras horas de la mañana de este miércoles, el 23 de diciembre, en la posición 42 del Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México para presencial el aterrizaje del avión privado de la empresa de transporte DHL, la cual se alió a la farmacéutica para encargarse de la distribución mundial de la primera vacuna de Covid-19 que llega a un país latinoamericano.
Según el simulacro de llegada que las autoridades mexicanas llevaron a cabo el pasado 18 de diciembre, tanto la custodia como el traslado en el país corresponden a las Secretarías de Defensa y de Marina, que aportarán la logística para su movimiento interno en México.
Aunque las autoridades no señalaron a qué hospital serán llevadas las primeras vacunas contra el COVID-19 en México, Sputnik pudo saber que serán mantenidas en las instalaciones de la Policía Militar de la Calzada Chivatito, ubicado en la zona de Chapultepec, que desde mayo de 2020 fue reconvertido como un hospital exclusivo para la atención de la enfermedad provocada por el nuevo coronavirus.
Las vacunas viajaron a México desde la planta de Pfizer ubicada en la localidad de Amberes, en Bélgica, realizaron una escala en el aeropuerto de Cincinatti, en Estados Unidos, y luego volaron hacia la capital mexicana.Según datos aportados por el Secretario de Hacienda, Arturo Herrera, presente durante la recepción del fármaco, México tiene los recursos suficientes para cubrir el costo de todas las vacunas que se han estimado necesarias para cubrir a su población.
Herrera informó que el monto total de los convenios por vacunas para el COVID-19 suscritos por el Gobierno mexicano ascienden a 1.659 millones de dólares, los cuales al tipo de cambio actual representan 33.000 millones de pesos mexicanos. Explicó que su Secretaría ya tiene reservada la totalidad del monto necesario para cumplir los compromisos y que el mismo ha sido depositado en dólares, para evitar problemas con una posible fluctuación del peso mexicano.
Además, la Secretaría de Salud mexicana estimó en otros 1.300 millones de pesos mexicanos los costos asociados a su aplicación y para cubrir los insumos necesarios que una masiva campaña de vacunación a nivel nacional requiere, los cuales también serán aportados por el Presupuesto Federal y no por el área de atención sanitaria.
“Aseguramos que los recursos necesarios para una vacunación gratuita y universal en México están reservados y que si por alguna razón se requiere aumentar la escala del costo de este ejercicio, aumentaremos el espacio fiscal para ello. Es prioridad del Gobierno de México que la vacuna sea un beneficio para todos los mexicanos”, sostuvo Herrera en la mañana de este 23 de diciembre.
Mientras la Presidencia cosecha el logro político a nivel global de que México sea uno de los primeros diez países del mundo en iniciar su proceso de vacunación antes de que termine el año 2020 —con la prioridad puesta en los trabajadores de la salud que actúan en el tratamiento de la enfermedad en los hospitales específicos— esta gestión también repercutirá a nivel interno, en las elecciones del próximo año.
Al mando de Marcelo Ebrard, el equipo de la Secertaría de Relaciones Exteriores cobró un protagonismo inédito en estas gestiones, particularmente con la participación de la subsecretaria para asuntos multilaterales y derechos humanos, Martha Delgado, que además de lograr la temprana llegada de la vacuna al país, se encargó de la creación de un puente aéreo para la importación de insumos, así como donaciones de países solidarios que alcanzaron los 2.000 millones de pesos en el año, según datos aportados por Delgado.”Hablamos del lejano día en que llegaría la primera vacuna a México pero como se dice en este país, las cosas buenas vienen en pocas cantidades”, sostuvo en conferencia la mencionada subsecretaria Delgado, en referencia a la escasa cantidad del primer vuelo recibido.
Pocos minutos pasadas las 9:15 de la mañana, el primer contenedor térmico especial diseñado por Pfizer fue descargado del avión privado, el cual conserva las vacunas en hielo seco, cuya temperatura se monitorea mediante chips y sensores; así como un GPS que marca su ubicación constantemente.
“Llegó la vacuna. Con el apoyo directo del presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador, hoy es un día para recordar. Mientras la población mexicana está voluntariamente en sus casas, cumpliendo las recomendaciones sanitarias, nos obliga reconocer el valioso e incomparable desempeño de quienes vienen trabajando en el tratamiento de esta enfermedad”, apuntó por su parte, Jorge Alcocer Varela, secretario de Salud Pública, quien recibió el documento en mano confirmando la entrega a México de las primeras vacunas contra el COVID-19.
“Celebramos el logro científico de esta vacuna desarrollada en tiempo récord, siendo segura y eficaz, que ha pasado rigurosos ensayos clínicos y análisis de datos que ha cumplido de forma estricta. Para ella, desde el sector salud hemos preparado el plan de vacunación más grande en la historia de nuestra población, que será universal y gratuito”, concluyó.
