La Procuraduría General de la República (PGR) advirtió que Javier Duarte, exgobernador de Veracruz sentenciado a nueve años de cárcel por asociación delictuosa y lavado de dinero, puede acceder a beneficios penitenciarios que le permitirán reducir su estancia tras las rejas a la mitad, y como ya pasó un año y medio encerrado, podría quedar libre en alrededor de tres años.
Sin embargo, la dependencia federal aseguró que la indagatoria contra Duarte sigue abierta, pues hay varias carpetas de investigación más, entre las que se menciona a su esposa, Karime Macías, quien reside en Londres.
Ante el resultado de la sanción, la Cámara de Diputados citó a una “reunión urgente” al encargado de despacho de la PGR, Alberto Elías Beltrán, con un grupo plural de legisladores designados por la Junta de Coordinación Política para que informe sobre lo sucedido.
Los diputados quieren evaluar la situación por la que atraviesa esa institución y abordar asuntos “relevantes”.
El Presidente electo, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, dijo que los acusadores de la PGR no presentaron todas las pruebas porque lo que buscaban era el escándalo, la espectacularidad, el show y también los votos en la elección pasada.
“Acuérdense cómo era de ‘voy a meter a la cárcel al corrupto del gobernador y terminaban haciendo lo mismo’ ¡Eso se acabó. Aprovéchenlo porque ya es lo último! No va a haber corrupción y no va a haber impunidad”.
