Todavîa son varios los eventos que con motivo de la celebración del natalicio de George Washington se llevaba acabo en la vecina ciudad de Laredo, Texas, en alguno de ellos tiene participación autoridades de Nuevo Laredo.
Para este jueves 16 de febrero esta programado el “Desfile Juvenil Bajo las Estrellas” mismo que se lleva a cabo por la avenida San Bernardo y en el que participan grupos de danza mostrando su talento y usando su creatividad para iluminar sus vestuarios y coreografías.
Para el viernes 17 de febrero se ha programado un evento que forma parte de esta ya tradicional celebración es el de la Sociedad de Martha Washington denominado “Colonial Pageant and Ball”, es uno de los eventos sociales más conocidos en el sur de Texas. El presidente, George Washington y su esposa, Martha Dandridge Washington sirven como las figuras centrales en este hermoso evento.
El mismo día El Festival Jalapeño brindará dos noches de música en vivo, juegos y diversión para toda la familia el viernes 17 de febrero y el sábado 18 de febrero en El Metro Park y Ride on Hillside Road. Se estarán presentando el viernes 17 de febrero “Los Cardenales de Nuevo León”, mientras que para el sábado está programado el grupo Duelo.
El sábado 18 se realizará uno de los eventos mas significativos: el “Abrazo Internacional”, esta ceremonia comienza con un simbólico abrazo de puente internacional entre las naciones con los cuatro niños Abrazo (dos de Nuevo Laredo y dos de Laredo).
Inmediatamente después de este ceremonia da arranque el “Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade” el desfile esperado por las familias de los dos laredos. este se lleva a cabo en la avenida San Bernardo y reúne a cientos de familias cada año.
