Desde el desastre que supuso el caso de las baterías explosivas del Samsung Note 7, los investigadores se dieron a la tarea de encontrar formas de prevenir los incendios de las baterías que alimentan nuestros dispositivos.
Es así que un grupo de desarrolladores de la Universidad de Stanford, en California, Estados Unidos, diseñaron una batería de iones de litio que esencialmente extingue el fuego si esta llega a recalentarse y lo mejor de todo es que lo hace sin su rendimiento ni su autonomía.
La solución encontrada por estos investigadores fue colocar un material entre los extremos positivo y negativo de la batería de tal manera que actúe como extintor en caso de producirse un conato de incendio.
Este material, compuesto de fosfato de trifenilo podría sustituir al polietileno como material separados de los extremos de la batería, ya que a diferencia del segundo, al derretirse por uu aumento de temperatura, libera el compuesto, lo que extingue la combustión.
De esa forma, una nueva generación de baterías evitaría la explosión de los aparatos y las lesiones a los usuarios. Queda por ver qué tan rápido adoptará esta tecnología la industria de la electrónica de consumo.
