Los asistentes encabezados por el presidente municipal, Carlos Canturosas Villarreal, vestidos en su mayoría de color blanco, se congregaron al finalizar la marcha en el monumento a Los Fundadores, donde colocaron una ofrenda floral y realizaron una guardia de honor.
La caminata emuló a los primeros pobladores de la Villa de San Agustín de Laredo, que de acuerdo al mito de la fundación de este puerto fronterizo, cruzaron el río Bravo hacia el sur cargando con sus familiares difuntos para instalarse en México, demostrando su amor a la patria que los vio nacer.
“La fundación de Nuevo Laredo está escrita con tinta indeleble en la memoria de México, está grabada en el corazón de cada una de las personas, es un orgullo sin duda alguna y un hecho trascendental para México entero, aquí en el monumento a Los Fundadores, emblema de patriotismo, está escrita la historia de 118 familias, que le dieron a nuestra ciudad, una lección de coraje, de orgullo, de dignidad, de amor y compromiso con México”, manifestó el alcalde.
Las dianas y las anécdotas del presidente municipal, Carlos Canturosas Villarreal, quien citó la crónica de la ciudad, lo cual le dio el toque patriota a la ceremonia frente al monumento más emblemático de esta frontera.
“Tal y como lo señaló el presidente Don Adolfo López Mateos y cito textualmente: ‘Pueblo tan entrañablemente patriota y Mexicano, como este el de Nuevo Laredo, que sabiendo que una ciudad no solo es presente y futuro, sino también pasado, para asentarse en este sitio se trajo a sus venerados restos de sus antepasados, para ligarse a toda nuestra tradición histórica de mexicanidad’, se cierra la cita; fueron como ustedes lo pueden constatar, un pueblo que estaba dispuesto a continuar su vida al amparo de la bandera de México”, puntualizó Canturosas Villarreal.
Durante esta marcha, el alcalde estuvo acompañado por el presidente municipal electo, Enrique Rivas Cuellar y su Esposa, la señora Adriana Herrera de Rivas, además de los cónsules de Estados Unidos, Philip Linderman y de México Carolina Zaragoza Flores.
También estuvieron presentes los diputados locales electos, Glafiro Salinas Mendiola, Brenda Cárdenas Thomae y Carlos Germán de Anda Hernández, así como síndicos y regidores.
Esta es la primera vez que se realiza una caminata ciudadana para conmemorar un aniversario de la fundación de esta ciudad.
