Google es proveedor de Apple para su servicio de almacenamiento digital de datos, conocido como nube o “cloud”, informó el jueves el sitio especializado estadounidense Re/code citando fuentes anónimas cercanas al acuerdo.
El contrato firmado el año pasado costaría a Apple entre 400 y 600 millones de dólares al año, aseguró Re/code. Pero podría ser un trato de corta duración porque Apple está construyendo su propia infraestructura.
Además de su carácter simbólico, este contrato ofrece a Google un impulso importante en su guerra contra Amazon y Microsoft en el lucrativo mercado de los servicios informáticos inmateriales.
Apple, que por el momento no tiene la infraestructura necesaria para gestionar todos sus servicios en la nube, también utiliza la de Amazon Web Services (AWS).
AWS es una división de Amazon especializada en “cloud computing”. Es una de las principales fuentes de recursos del gigante del comercio en línea.
Apple también recurre a Azure, una rama de Microsoft también especializada en servicios en la nube.
Microsoft, Google y Amazon permiten a las empresas y gobiernos utilizar sus servidores en lugar de construir sus propias infraestructuras informáticas. Es un modelo de negocios atractivo porque ofrece a los clientes mayor flexibilidad y menores costos.
