Un terremoto ocurrido este martes en las costas de la prefectura de Fukushima desató un tsunami que golpeó la zona de la central nuclear siniestrada en 2011, aunque inicialmente no se reportaron daños a las infraestructuras y horas después la alerta fue levantada.
La agencia meteorológica japonesa revisó la estimación inicial del sismo a una magnitud de 7.4, frente a una primera medición de 7.3 (6.9 según el instituto geológico estadounidense USGS). El movimiento telúrico se produjo a las 05H59 (21H00 GMT) a una profundidad de 25 kilómetros y tuvo como epicentro una zona de la prefectura de Fukushima.
La compañía Tepco (Tokyo Electric Power), que opera la planta de Fukushima, indicó en una rueda de prensa que una ola de un metro tocó las costas adyacentes, pero según las informaciones preliminares entregadas por un portavoz de la compañía a la AFP, no se ha registrado ningún incidente.
Tepco informó además que uno de los sistemas de refrigeración de la piscina de combustible utilizado por el reactor 3 de Fukushima Daini fue detenido, pero su funcionamiento fue restablecido poco después.
Dos horas después del terremoto, en la costa de Sendai, en la prefectura de Miyagi, se registró una ola de 1.4 metros, mientras que en otras localidades el nivel del mar subió varios centímetros, indicó la agencia meteorológica nacional.
En un principio la agencia había advertido que olas de hasta tres metros podían golpear las costas, aunque siete horas después del sismo la alerta fue finalmente levantada. La agencia advirtió sin embargo a la población que en los próximos siete días seguirán sintiéndose las replicas del fuerte sismo.
Según las informaciones preliminares no se registraron daños y sólo hubo heridos leves, pero los residentes de la costa sufrieron los violentos remezones y unas 10 mil personas fueron evacuadas.
“Fue un sismo fuerte y muy largo. Las sirenas sonaron para prevenir sobre el riesgo de tsunami en la costa, pero sobre todo yo estoy inquieta por las centrales nucleares”, indicó Akemi Anzai, residente en la localidad de Minamisoma, ubicada al norte de Fukushima. El Gobierno abrió una célula de crisis para dar información y consignas a los equipos de emergencia, los municipios y sus habitantes.
