La Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (Unesco) firmó este lunes un convenio específico con el Gobierno de México para ayudar en las tareas de protección del patrimonio histórico y cultural en la zona del Tren Maya, un proyecto de infraestructura en construcción para modernizar el sureste del país.
“La Unesco nos puede garantizar que los elementos tanto patrimoniales como culturales que existan en la región tengan el debido tratamiento y que contemos con el debido acompañamiento para garantizar las mejores prácticas”, explicó el director del Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo (Fonatur), Rogelio Jiménez.
Desde el Museo Nacional de Antropología, Jiménez destacó que el Tren Maya, uno de los proyectos estrella del Presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador, “está concebido con una visión integral de desarrollo”.
La coordinadora residente interina de la ONU en México, Belén Sanz, aseguró que el proyecto del Gobierno mexicano “se alinea de un modo muy claro con la Agenda de Desarrollo Sostenible 2030” por lo que las Naciones Unidas y el Ejecutivo van a “trabajar de manera conjunta para fortalecer la defensa, promoción y difusión de los derechos humanos en este proyecto”.
“La ruta del tren incluye seis bienes inscritos en la lista de Patrimonio Mundial de la Unesco y cinco reservas de la biosfera (…), así como la presencia de más de 16 pueblos y lenguas indígenas. Además de una diversidad de expresiones culturales e industrias creativas e un interminable cúmulo de patrimonios, prácticas y conocimientos tradicionales”, recordó Sanz.
México alberga el 12 por ciento de la bioversidad del planeta, según su Secretario de Turismo, Miguel Torruco.
La representante de la ONU consideró el Tren Maya como “un proyecto que más que una iniciativa de infraestructura se trata de un proyecto integral, que busca poner en el centro el desarrollo no solo medioambiental, no solo en infraestrucutra, sino el desarrollo social y humano de las comunidades”.
Otras agencias de las Naciones Unidas, como ONU-Hábitat, ONU-DH y la UNOPS, también trabajan con el Gobierno mexicano en el desarrollo de esta obra en el tradicionalmente empobrecido sureste del país.
El Tren Maya es uno de los proyectos principales de la Administración de López Obrador, que pretende con él dinamizar el sureste mexicano y que tendrá una inversión total estimada de 4 mil 229 millones de euros (5 mil millones de dólares) para mil 554 kilómetros de extensión en los cinco estados de esa zona: Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, Chiapas y Quintana Roo.
