CIUDAD DE MÉXICO (EFE).- Un policía murió este domingo durante un ataque a tiros contra la casa del cardenal emérito Norberto Rivera, según informó la Secretaría de Seguridad Pública capitalina (SSP).
El ataque ocurrió alrededor de las 15:00 horas y estuvo a cargo de al menos tres hombres que dispararon al inmueble, en una exclusiva colonia residencial, desde un par de motocicletas y una camioneta.
En la agresión murió un agente de la Policía Bancaria e Industrial, grupo de la SSP con funciones de vigilancia en instituciones públicas y bancos.
Al menos una decena de casquillos fue hallada durante las primeras inspecciones por parte de la SSP, que apunta como principal hipótesis a un posible intento de robo a la residencia.
En 2017, Rivera presentó al papa Francisco su renuncia como cardenal y arzobispo primado de México, al haber alcanzado la edad de jubilación de 75 años. Fue sustituido en febrero de 2018 por Carlos Aguiar Retes.
En 1965, fue ordenado diácono y un año después fue ordenado sacerdote por el papa Pablo VI, en la Basílica de San Pedro. Regresó a México y comenzó a hacer trabajo pastoral en Zacatecas y Durango.
Participó en numerosos movimientos eclesiásticos y entre 1982 y 1985 fue profesor de la Universidad Pontificia de México, secretario ejecutivo del cuidado pastoral de las familias y miembro de la Comisión Episcopal para el Apostolado Seglar.
En 1985, fue elegido obispo de Tehuacán, en el central estado de Puebla, y 10 años después se convirtió en arzobispo primado de México.
