En busca de alternativas para aliviar el problema de bloqueo de cruceros ferroviarios en la parte oeste de la ciudad, el alcalde Pete Sáenz pedirá hoy revisar un acuerdo para un estudio de factibilidad sobre la construcción de puentes elevados.
“Queremos ver lo de un posible acuerdo para hacer estudio, es algo que se necesita para aminorar el problema que tenemos con el bloqueo de cruceros por el tren”, dijo el Mayor.
En la sesión de este día el cabildo analizará un posible convenio donde el gobierno municipal puede aportar hasta un 10 por ciento del costo estimado para el estudio sobre la construcción de uno o varios puentes elevados entre las calles Scott y Sánchez, en su cruce con las vías del ferrocarril.
De manera preliminar se estima que un estudio de esta magnitud puede costar poco más de 400 mil dólares y se debe determinar si lo realizan Kansas City Southern y Union Pacific de manera coordinada con el Municipio.
Cabe mencionar que desde hace un par de años el congresista federal Henry Cuellar realiza esfuerzos para encontrar una solución al problema que afecta a miles de laredenses, quienes a diario sufren el bloqueo de calles.
Inclusive, en el 2014 logró que la Oficina de Contabilidad Gubernamental hiciera un análisis con recomendaciones para atacar el problema de los trenes y reducir la congestión ferroviaria en las calles de Laredo.
La empresa Kansas City Southern cruza más de 30 trenes diarios por Laredo y utiliza el corredor desde el puente de ferrocarril hacia el este de la ciudad, causando problemas de congestión en puntos como San Bernardo, Santa Úrsula, San Darío y demás arterias aledañas.
Union Pacific maneja también más de 20 trenes y utiliza el corredor de sur a norte y de norte a sur provocando problemas de bloqueos en su recorrido por la parte oeste y demoras muy prolongadas en algunos sectores de la ciudad.
Hace un par de años las dos compañías hicieron el compromiso de hacer mejoras en los cruceros ferroviarios para hacerlos más eficientes y seguros, pero esto apenas logró reducir un poco el problema.
