Bajo un nuevo programa llamado “Vamos a alumbrar el centro”, los comerciantes del primer cuadro de la ciudad tendrán la oportunidad de recibir hasta 25 mil dólares que les ayuden a mejorar la iluminación de sus fachadas.
“Es un programa especial que iniciaremos para comenzar a transformar el centro y convertirlo en un lugar más atractivo para los visitantes, gestionamos fondos federales del Departamento de Vivienda y Desarrollo Urbano (HUD) para comenzarlo”, dijo Roberto Balli.
El Regidor del Distrito 8 agregó que en el pasado este programa se implementó, pero con poco éxito por los estrictos requisitos solicitados por HUD.
“Se trabajó con el regente municipal Jesús Olivares y logramos hacer algunos cambios que hagan más accesibles estos fondos para los comerciantes”, explicó.
Uno de los requisitos exigía que los solicitantes aportaran 10 mil dólares para aplicarlos en mejoras al negocio.
“Si un comerciante obtenía 15 mil dólares tenía que aportar otros 10 mil de su bolsa y aparte estaban forzados a realizar muchos cambios en electricidad, plomería y demás”, refirió.
Ahora pueden recibir 15 mil dólares para alumbrar sus fachadas y hasta 25 mil si están en esquina, y solamente están obligados a aportar 500 dólares en efectivo para obtener el beneficio.
“La idea es que usen dinero para hacer las mejoras en las instalaciones eléctricas que exige HUD y de esta manera cumplan un doble objetivo, mejoren la infraestructura de su edificio y le den otra imagen con el alumbrado de sus fachadas”, dijo.
Balli consideró que esta iniciativa debe ayudar a mejorar la imagen del centro, para atraer más visitantes y para hacer de esta zona comercial un área más segura.
“Algunos comerciantes se han acercado para decirme que tienen problemas con personas que usan sus entradas para dormir, por eso es importante que les pongan alumbrado a sus fachadas”, mencionó el concejal.
Destacó que en el centro hay estructuras y edificios muy antiguos que tienen una belleza singular pero no resaltan porque no están alumbrados.
“Mientras más empresarios participen en esta iniciativa más pronto vamos a conseguir el objetivo de transformar el centro para que la comunidad se sienta orgullosa de mostrarlo a los visitantes”, indicó el funcionario.
El programa modificado será aprobado en la junta de cabildo de este lunes y será manejado por el Departamento de Desarrollo Comunitario.
